Worldwide Twin Towns

As early as 1950, Montbeliard and Ludwigsburg signed the 1st German-French twin town agreement. This step was facilitated by the historical connection between the Württemberg and Mömpelgard families. Ludwigsburg and Montbeliard were awarded the Adenauer-de-Gaulle prize in 1988 for their exemplary twin town relationship.

In 1960 a twin town agreement was made with Caerphilly, South Wales, in 1990 with Jevpatorija, Crimea and in 1995 with St. Charles, Missouri. Today, Ludwigsburg maintains friendly relations with the previous allied enemies France, Great Britain, Ukraine and the USA. Since 2012, the city of Novy Jicin, Czech Republic, became Ludwigsburg's latest twin town.
