Damage report - Report road damage

Report damage on the road, such as potholes, to the road construction authority. By doing so, you are actively contributing to road safety. Damaged roads can have serious consequences for all road users.

Responsible authority

Depending on the class of road, different authorities are responsible for repairing road damage:

  • on motorways: the south-west branch of Autobahn GmbH of the federal government
  • on federal, state or district roads outside built-up areas: the respective district office or urban district
  • on federal, state or district roads within built-up areas: depending on the number of inhabitants and the road concerned: For federal roads, the city is responsible if the population exceeds 80,000; for state and district roads, the city is responsible if the population exceeds 30,000, otherwise the district office is responsible.
  • on all other roads within built-up areas, for example in residential and commercial areas, the local authority is responsible.
