Old-age pension (statutory retirement pension) - application

You have reached retirement age and you wish to have your pension paid out without any deductions? You must submit an application at the competent pension insurance agency.

The pension amount under the statutory pension insurance scheme is adjusted on 01.07. each year. When, and by what amounts, pensions are adjusted is determined on a national level by the legislator. Your own pension is therefore automatically adjusted, without any action being required on your part.

Once you reach the regular retirement age, but have not yet applied for a pension, you also increase your pension claim automatically without any further payment contributions. As a settlement, a surcharge of 0.5% for each calendar month exists for each calendar month in which you do not claim the pension following the attainment of the regular retirement age. After one year, this is six percent.

Also if you continue to work after reaching the regular pension age, you increase your subsequent full pension, as you continue to pay contributions. In addition, surcharges exist. As of 01.07.2017, these are calculated on 01.07. of each year.

Prerequisite

Prerequisites:

  • You have reached the standard retirement age
    Between 2012 and 2029, the standard retirement age will be raised gradually from 65 years to 67 years. You can find an overview of the increase in retirement age on the Internet pages of the German Pension Insurance.
  • You have paid contributions for five years.
  • Your pension insurance account is clarified

Procedure

You must apply for the old age pension.
You can have your application carried out by the competent bodies

Note: In case of a personal application, you will also receive advice and assistance concerning the topic of pensions.

Or do you wish to make the application yourself in paper form? You can obtain the necessary forms from the competent body. You can also download the forms from the Internet page of the German Pension Insurance Scheme Baden-Württemberg.

You then send the fully filled in pension application directly to your pension insurance provider. Depending on the services offered by the municipality, you can also submit the application to them.
The pension process starts on receipt of the application by the pension insurance provider.
 

Deadlines

Make your application no later than three months prior to reaching retirement age.

Then you can expect to receive the decision and your first pension payment in the month your benefits become payable.

Note: A delayed application can lead to a delayed start to your pension payments.

Miscellaneous

From the contributions you paid during your working life, and any other relevant insurance periods (for example, child rearing periods), the monthly benefit is calculated according to a fixed procedure. The amount thus calculated is transferred to you each month.
